Content creation is evolving faster than ever, and staying on the curve is important, especially for those of us working in communications and media. I recently came across an article by AP Workflow Solutions, The Future of Content Creation: 6 Trends To Watch, that lists six major trends that are changing the way we tell stories and interact with audiences. Here's my take on what it will mean for communicators and content creators in the future.
1. AI & Machine Learning Are Here to Stay
Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing the creative process. AI tools like ChatGPT are used to brainstorm, write, and even edit content, saving time and opening doors. But while as powerful as AI is, there is still a necessity to have a human voice behind the message. Creativity, ethics, and authenticity can't be programmed.
2. The Rise of Mixed Reality
AR and VR are introducing immersive ways to engage with audiences. For interactive narratives or virtual experiences, these technologies create new territory for content creators to play with, especially for brands or journalists determined to make their mark.
3. Short-Form Video Rules
TikTok, Reels, and Shorts are showing that sometimes less is more. Bite-sized, quick videos are becoming the norm for getting attention, particularly among younger viewers. It's no longer all about entertainment; short-form content is a legitimate storytelling tool.
4. Reactive Content Matters
With the 24/7 news cycle of today, timeliness is paramount. Reactive content, tracking news, trends, or viral moments, keeps brands front of mind and jumping onto conversations as they occur. It's being plugged in and ready to change gears.
5. Podcasting Continues to Grow
Podcasts aren't a passing fad, they're a mainstay. With lots of listeners accessing shows on-the-go, the medium is an ideal way of delving more deeply into reporting and reaching specialists. If you've yet to dive into the world of podcasting, it might be time to rethink.
6. First-Party Data Is Key
As privacy changes and third-party cookies are gone, having direct connections to your audience is more important than ever. That means delivering value, earning trust, and bringing people into your content on their own terms.
